4. Pipette tips and tip boxes

Tips are as important a component of the system as the pipette. If their quality is poor or their fit imprecise, it will be impossible to obtain satisfactory results, even with the best pipette.

Precision fit determines tightness, i.e. it requires less effort to achieve this tightness.

The shape of the tip influences the height of the liquid column. The centering and finish of the orifice (figure 4 ) and surface properties (wettability and roughness) influence flow properties.
