2. Archaeological prospecting and remote sensing
For the archaeologist, inventorying archaeological sites is a fundamental task. The term "archaeological site" is used here in a very broad sense. It covers all forms of land occupation that result in the presence of material remains in a more or less man-made space. This may be housing, but also road infrastructure (roads, paths, etc.), agro-pastoral infrastructure (fields, enclosures, terraces, ditches, etc.), economic infrastructure (lime kilns, coalfields, mines, quarries, etc.), military infrastructure (trenches, batteries, fortifications, etc.) or territorial infrastructure (boundaries marked by ditches, for example).
