Bois gorgé d'eau ; Waterlogged wood
Wood that has spent several centuries in a humid environment (subaquatic or terrestrial) and has a highly altered structure due to the drastic reduction, during immersion, of its biodegradable constituents, hemicelluloses and cellulose. It is therefore essentially formed by water-filled cell walls, which collapse (known as "cell collapse") if dried without care.
Conservation; Preservation
All the treatments applied to waterlogged wood to consolidate it so that it can be dried with as little deformation as possible.
Impregnation; Impregnation
A conservation treatment that uses water-based diffusion to penetrate a resin into the damaged structure of waterlogged wood.
