2. Validation vocabulary

The term "validation" is widely used in the analytical literature. Because of this high frequency, there are many different meanings and a certain ambiguity about its use. Since a choice had to be made, we'll start with the definitions proposed in the VIM , recalled here.

Measurand (VIM 2.3): quantity to be measured.

Measurement uncertainty (VIM 2.26): non-negative parameter characterizing the dispersion of values attributed to a measurand, based on the information used.
