5. Conclusion
Since 2007, metrology has benefited from over €500 million in European funding (programs which together represent over €1 billion invested in research with the participation of member states). This has considerably transformed the metrology landscape. From the outset, and by their very nature, even if there is competition between NMIs, they have always worked together to demonstrate the validity of their scientific results, at least through participation in interlaboratory comparisons. With the creation of NMI associations such as EURAMET e.V., greater cooperation has emerged in order to advance a little more rapidly in research, since resources are inevitably not infinitely extensible.
