2.1 Pre-defining the mission
Transforming existing aircraft by integrating tanks and adapting propulsion systems can only meet the needs of short- or medium-haul missions. Indeed, the volume available in a conventional wing cannot meet the needs of a long-haul aircraft powered by hydrogen. The flying wing fulfills this mission, precisely by breaking away from conventional aircraft architecture.
If we want to match, or even exceed, the current range of the benchmark wide-body jets (A350 and B787), we need to achieve a range of around 18,000 km. This would bring almost the entire planet within direct flight range.
