4. Herbal food supplement regulations

Until 2002, the legislation governing food supplements was part of the regulations governing foodstuffs. It was only with Directive 2002/46/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of June 10, 2002 that a legal framework was established, giving this foodstuff a definition, a list of ingredients authorized for use in its composition, and indications concerning its labeling.

European Directive 2002/46/EC was transposed into French law by Decree no. 2006-352 of March 20, 2006 (amended by Decree no. 2011-329 of March 25, 2011). This seminal text provided a national framework for the manufacture and marketing of this new product.
