5. Perspectives and conclusions
These bacterial biopolymers certainly hold many promise for the biomedical sector. The possibility of functionalizing them and adapting their composition according to the properties required, the possibility of shaping them to suit therapeutic constraints, better control of the production and purity of specific PHAs, etc., are all parameters that argue in favor of these biopolymers. But in addition to all this, the search is on for new producer strains that would offer advantages over current strains (higher yields, better growth kinetics, homogeneity of chemical structure and molecular weight distribution, direct synthesis of new polymers or functionalized polymers, etc.). In this sense, the marine environment, with its biodiversity, is a privileged field of investigation.
