4. Hyperthermia in oncology

Tumor heating is not a new therapeutic approach. It has produced extremely convincing results, but these have been masked by the massive development of chemotherapies, which in a not inconsiderable number of pathologies produce worse results, with extremely damaging side-effects.

  • The characteristics of the materials to be used in hyperthermia depend on the tissue or tissues to be targeted, i.e. the temperature to be reached to treat the diseased tissue.

    There are several types of protocols:

    • low temperature 40-41 °C for a long time 6-72 h ;

    • moderate hyperthermia 42-45 °C for 15-60 min ;

    • high temperature above 50°C for thermal ablation for 4-6 min.
