3. Conclusion
It has to be said that techniques for repairing or reinforcing reinforced or prestressed concrete structures using composite materials are developing much more rapidly in North America and Japan than in Europe. This is essentially due to the fact that climatic stress conditions and, consequently, the mechanisms of structural degradation are much greater in Canada and the northern United States. On the other hand, it must be acknowledged that the initial design of French structures took protection problems into account, with the use of waterproofing membranes and careful execution techniques.
In the case of Japan, consideration of seismic stress is certainly behind the development of these techniques.
