3. Architectural thermoelectric materials

3.1 Concept and state of the art

The principle of modulating thermoelectric properties and the figure of merit in architectural materials (gradient-functional materials) can be implemented by realizing (figure 12 ):

  • segmented branches, i.e. made up of strata of materials of different natures, assembled in series, so that each stratum performs best in the temperature range to which it is subjected. Thermoelements assembled in cascade can also be envisaged, with greater flexibility in the choice of materials and fewer interface problems to resolve, but with greater dimensions and mass;
