3.1 Concept and state of the art
The principle of modulating thermoelectric properties and the figure of merit in architectural materials (gradient-functional materials) can be implemented by realizing (figure 12 ):
segmented branches, i.e. made up of strata of materials of different natures, assembled in series, so that each stratum performs best in the temperature range to which it is subjected.
