2. Nitrogen compounds
Nitrogen-based flame retardants account for a small proportion of worldwide consumption of flame retardants for fireproofing. However, particular interest is currently focused on the development of this type of flame retardant and its combination with phosphorus-based flame retardants. The gases released during combustion of polymers containing these flame retardants are less toxic and less corrosive. Nitrogen flame retardants do not antagonize light stabilizers such as HALS (Hindered Amine Light Stabiliser), which is important for long-life flame-retardant materials. In addition, they often have a high degradation temperature. This is an advantage when recycling (multiple extrusion) polymers flame-retarded with these flame retardants
