4. Conclusion

The two examples presented concern dry, closed polymer-metal contact and sheet metal rolling with mixed lubrication. However, with slight adaptations, they could be applied to other types of contact. The first model can be applied directly to any dry or boundary-lubricated contact, subject of course to adjustment of the model parameters and empirical consideration of particle leakage. The second can be used to describe the degradation of a contact between mechanism parts under mixed and boundary lubrication conditions, with the normal force applied to the mechanism being the first-approximation equivalent of the thickness reduction imposed on the sheet metal (see
