Abrasion – abrasion

Wear mechanism of part A induced by a harder, rougher counterpart B.

Membership – membership

Wear mechanism on part A where particles of A are transferred to counterpart B.

Coulomb friction coefficient

Ratio of tangential force to normal force when two solid bodies are in relative motion.

Archard wear coefficient – Archard wear coefficient

Product of wear volume and Vickers hardness of the body divided by normal force and sliding length.

Elastic strain – elastic strain

Reversible deformation of a material induced by a low level of stress. In uniaxial tension, stress is the product of Young's modulus and relative elongation.
