7. Conclusion

Wear debris is an important element in the analysis of surface damage in a tribological context. Very often, they prove to be real clues that can then be used to establish a damage scenario or preventive maintenance. They can be useful in all industrial sectors, from the analysis of lubricants (unused and used) to the analysis of synovial fluid. Sampling and analysis techniques are numerous, but often complementary. The right methodology can yield data rich in information, while rationalizing costs. An appropriate choice of parameters or descriptors should provide a rapid diagnosis.
