3. Choosing a surface treatment or coating

Depending on the major risks of surface damage in the situation under consideration, we should opt for an appropriate treatment or coating.

3.1 Adhesive damage

According to Bowden and Tabor's model , adhesion or adhesive wear is manifested specifically by the establishment of interfacial bonds. From the materials' point of view, the aim is to limit the appearance of these bonds or to weaken them.
