Manufacturers of heavy-duty and industrial diesel engines generally follow API recommendations in their recommendations, both for 4-stroke engines (Caterpillar, Cummins, GM, Deere, etc.) and for 2-stroke engines (GM/Detroit Diesel), adding special requirements in terms of physico-chemical characteristics.
