4. Applications
All equipment operating in a natural environment has the potential to cause environmental pollution through accidental oil leaks. The use of biolubricants can address these concerns. The penetration of biolubricants remains very low today, although there is a wide range on offer and this market is expected to grow in the near future. In Europe, in general, only a handful of real regulatory constraints concern protected sites such as HQE (high environmental quality) worksites, which present greater constraints in terms of environmental protection.
No precise data is currently available to quantify the market for plant-based lubricants or biolubricants, either at European or national level. There are still no European regulations directly imposing eco-compatibility criteria for lubrication applications!
