The loss of surface layer thickness or linear wear Δh over time Δt (Δh /Δt) is constant in the stationary wear regime. This can be expressed in another way: the loss in thickness of a surface layer Δh is the quotient of the wear volume ΔV and the contact area A. The formula (1) gives us:
