3. Conclusion
To conclude this article, we can say that the recycling of capital goods containing iron is a reality, supported by increasingly sophisticated tools whose investment is covered by the value they create (scrap of various qualities purchased by steelmakers to cover, in France for example, around 50% of their iron requirements). As a result, ferrous products and other steels are the most recycled materials in the world: it is estimated that their recycling rate is around 93% worldwide, all scrap combined (old scrap and new production scrap). This recycling rate, which is already very high, could be further improved by optimizing collection, i.e. by recovering ferrous products that are currently lost to rust (steel dumped with the concrete it reinforced, steel cans almost completely oxidized in household waste incinerators, etc.), but this is no longer the major challenge for recycling ferrous...
