3. Conclusion

The physical-chemical and mechanical properties of coke have a major influence on blast furnace operation.

The permeability of the blast furnace in the hot zones determines the unit's production performance. This permeability is enhanced by the use of a porous coke, with a homogeneous grain size (narrow distribution), capable of remaining mechanically stable, without significant degradation, after heavy stresses at high temperatures and chemical aggression.

The more coal is injected into the blast furnace tuyeres, the tighter the grain size and the greater the mechanical strength required.

In this respect, good mechanical stabilization of the coke is essential before it is loaded into the blast furnace, to avoid fragmentation in the upper part of the furnace.
