4. Gas-solid reactions for case-hardening steels on an industrial scale

4.1 Thermal and hydrodynamic characteristics of reactors

Industrial case-hardening treatments must be carried out in a furnace such that carbon transfer is homogeneous over the entire surface of the charge. This furnace must be an isothermal chemical reactor whose behavior must tend towards that of a perfectly stirred, i.e. chemically homogeneous, reactor.
