5. Grain magnification of stainless steels

5.1 Ferritic stainless steels

Ferritic stainless steels are subject to grain coarsening during high-temperature operations: reheating of slabs or blooms before hot rolling, heat-affected zone of welded joints.

When annealing or homogenizing between 750 and 1,000°C, grain coarsening poses no particular problem.
