2. Evolution of tool steels
Tool steels are a rapidly evolving product class, thanks to advances in manufacturing techniques, vacuum or slag remelting and hot forming, as well as in machining, heat treatment and surface treatment. This evolution is being felt in the three main families of tool steels:
cold work steels ;
hot-work steels ;
high-speed steels.

Progress has been made, on the one hand in terms of toughness/wear resistance, and on the other in terms of improved corrosion resistance.
