3. Physical properties of platinoids
The main physical characteristics of platinoids can be summed up as follows: excellent corrosion resistance, good conductivity, good mechanical properties, low sensitivity to chemical attack, high melting points make them indispensable in very high-temperature environments. They are also excellent catalysts.
Some remarkable properties :
Ruthenium and osmium: they share a common property, namely an oxidation state of up to +8, the most common being +2 and +3. The most stable compounds are fluorides or oxides.
