Measuring the deformation of geosynthetic blankets can provide useful information on their tensile strength and the distribution of stresses within the blanket.

Traditional methods (strain gauges, extensometers) are difficult to use because of the size of the sensors or the connection between the sensor and the geosynthetic layer.

Fiber optic sensors [R412] can measure deformations at points or along the optical fiber. The use of optical fibers gives very good results in terms of accuracy, durability and ease of installation, provided a few precautions...
