Piezoelectricity; piezoelectricity
Property of a crystalline material to polarize electrically under the effect of mechanical stress (direct effect) or to deform elastically under the effect of an applied electric field (reverse effect).
Polar domain; polar domain
This is an area of the material in which all the electric dipole moments are parallel. The dividing line between two adjacent domains with different orientations is used to classify the domains according to the angle formed by the direction of the dipole moments in the two adjacent zones (180° domains, 90° domains, etc.).
Ferroélectricité; ferroelectricity
Property of a crystalline material that possesses polar domains that can be reoriented by the application of an electric field.
