Chromophore; Chromophore
Set of atoms or group of atoms responsible for the color of a molecular entity and, by extension and more generally, for the origin of a given electronic transition.
Auxochrome; Auxochrome
Radical which, when introduced into a colored body called "chromogen", transforms it into coloring matter.
Bathochrome; Bathochrome
Any effect that shifts the electronic absorption or emission spectrum of a molecular entity towards lower frequencies.
Hypsochrome; Hypsochromic
Any effect that shifts the electronic absorption or emission spectrum of a molecular entity towards higher frequencies.
