3.1 Stability of bleach solutions
Even at room temperature, bleach solutions decompose more or less slowly, releasing oxygen and/or producing chlorate. Remember that :
decomposition rate increases with hypochlorite concentration and temperature;
decomposition is catalyzed by numerous trace metal salts such as Ni, Co and Fe;
the optimum free soda concentration is around 10 g/L.
