4. Selector types
Pneumatic classification of particles dispersed in a gaseous medium enables fine (1 to 100 μm) and sometimes relatively coarse (250 μm or more) cuts, with solid throughputs ranging from a few grams in the laboratory to several hundred tonnes per hour in industry. These techniques are designed to process materials characterized by large granular dispersions . There are two main types of industrial selector:
static selection chambers using a horizontal or vertical gas flow with or without baffles;
devices using centrifugal force, such as static cyclones, horizontal-axis rotor separators...
