5. Conclusion : Ready-to-use surfaces

The innovative technology presented here is based on an original approach. It enables us to produce unambiguously robust, dense, homogeneous and compact monolayers. It is based on a concept of "spatial pre-organization" of the molecular entity to be immobilized, a calix[4]arene. Depending on the substituents present on the small neck of the calix[4]arene, hydrophobic (alkyl or fluoroalkyl groups), hydrophilic (carboxylic acid groups) or post-functionalizable surfaces were obtained. The post-functionalization strategy was validated on an example using electroactive functional molecules. Of course, other molecular objects linked to other terminal functions may also be considered. The ambition of the technology is to design and produce ready-to-use surfaces for a wide range of applications.
