7. Application example
A famous perfumer manages its industrial and commercial activities in a rational way, with the aim of obtaining the best unit costs for its products. To achieve this, a performance indicator, the SRR (Synthetic Yield Rate), has been implemented on all packaging lines. It is this indicator that the production manager uses to objectivize, judge and interest him. He therefore makes every effort to maximize it, and in particular decides on a large batch size in order to reduce the number of time-consuming and unproductive changeovers. This choice has the effect of minimizing the negative impact of changeovers on the OEE, which leads our production manager to believe that it is not necessary to engage in SMED work (a methodology for drastically reducing changeover times), as this would have a negligible impact on yields.
