3. Preliminary approach

As already mentioned in the introduction, it is necessary to have a good understanding of the overall kinetic operation at the catalyst grain level.

The problem is posed in the following terms:

  • or we can measure the apparent velocity r¯ directly on the catalyst grains used in the industrial reactor; the Carberry stirred basket reactor is well suited to this task. We then want to know if there are any external or internal diffussional limitations to material and heat transfer, i.e. estimate the concentration and temperature differences in the film and in the grain.
