4. Industrial production

Industrial processes vary according to the products required, due to the different behavior of reagents in a given environment.

The preparation processes are described in turn:

— ethylbenzene in the presence of AlCl 3 or zeolites (either gas-phase or liquid-phase process);

Note :

a process using boron trifluoride had some industrial applications in the 70s. It has been superseded by the above-mentioned processes and will therefore not be detailed.

—of cumene in the presence of phosphoric acid deposited on alumina;

—alkylates for detergents.
