7. Conclusion
The link between LDAP and security is not new. Security has been built into the LDAP protocol and associated services from the very beginning.
As we have seen in this dossier, security comes in many forms, such as: authentication of directory users, access control to data stored in the directory, confidentiality of exchanges between a client application and the server, etc.
The benefits of securing a directory are twofold: on the one hand, it enables companies to implement a directory service without fear of their sensitive data being exposed to malicious action, and on the other, it enables them to use the same directory as a tool for implementing a corporate security policy.
