4.1 Reading
Paper is well suited to reading long, dense texts sequentially, probably in part because eye strain is generally lower on paper. As a result, paper documents are well suited to texts that require sustained reading (literary texts, for example). Digital documents are well suited to non-sequential browsing of huge volumes of information. Digital texts are rarely used for the kinds of texts that require ongoing reading, but rather for texts that are consulted, or only partially read. It's more a question of consultation reading, often linked to a search for information. Others call this reading "montage reading", by analogy with the cinema, except that "the editing operation is only partially mastered by its makers, since the reader is, to a certain extent, the sole master...
