2.1 Editing MathML
Editors specifically dedicated to MathML are still few and far between. At the same time, the vast majority of traditional software for expressing and representing mathematical equations offer gateways to MathML. They make the most of their scientific, typographic and ergonomic know-how. They make it easy to evolve towards the new standards of scientific communication. While attractive (and indispensable), this may not be enough. One of MathML's main vocations is information exchange. Bi-directional gateways are essential. At present, this is often not the case (at least not in an efficient and totally reliable way). If the situation were not to evolve, it would become reductive.
