6. Perspectives and conclusions
6.1 Towards Web services for devices...
Throughout this article, we've looked at the motivations behind UPnP and the protocols that enable its functionality. When we take a closer look at the UPnP stack, we quickly realize that the protocols used are partly those of Web services, to which search, discovery and event notification functionalities have been added.
These new features comply with the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) recommendations for Web services, which cover the layers of the OSI standard (figure 6 ):
