SOAP defines little in the way of security, leaving it to the transport protocol to guarantee it. If the latter is HTTP, it relies on the secure version of the protocol (HTTPS) and on the notion of a certificate, now commonly used on the Internet. As SOAP messages are HTTP (or HTTPS) messages, firewalls can easily filter or pass them like any other message routed over the same medium.
