5. Conclusion

In just a few years, the spread of Java has spawned a large number of virtual machine implementations. It's becoming rare to have a computer without a Java virtual machine. Ten years have passed since the first version of this article was written, and it's a rare fact in computing that the definition of the instruction set and the grammar of the generated files have remained the same. The intermediate code ensures stability, and the millions of Java machines installed worldwide also contribute to this.

This virtual machine is now present on a large number of computers, from application servers for large corporations to browser-equipped clients. Another success story has been the porting of a minimal version of this machine
