2.1 Architecture
The Web is built around a client-server architecture (figure 3 ). Clients send messages to Web servers, which are called HTTP Daemons. Web servers are processes whose essential function is to respond to requests from clients running a browser. These requests may be for the transfer of a file, or for the execution of a program on the server machine (e.g., a database query).
