3.1 Overall architecture
Most of today’s radars are based on the monostatic architecture : the same antenna is used for both transmitting and receiving, reducing space requirements since the same device is used for both functions.
The bistatic architecture is experiencing renewed interest for specific applications:
for technological reasons: systems operating at very low frequencies (less than 30 MHz), with very high power and very long range: e.g. over-the-horizon (OTH) radars;
electromagnetic barrier systems called Forward Sattering Radar (FSR);...
