3. Photogrammetry automation

This has been made possible by the development of efficient algorithms and the availability of ever-increasing computing power. At the forefront of the key software tools are those enabling the automatic extraction of points of interest, the last hurdle preventing automation of the entire processing chain.

3.1 Automatic extraction of points of interest

As already mentioned, the notion of image processing covers a much wider field than that of photogrammetry, with in particular all areas of automatic extraction of segments, of more or less complex shapes, where 3D aspects play little or no part. Nevertheless, certain image processing algorithms are very widely used in photogrammetry, and these are those that enable the automatic extraction of points of interest....
