8. How to find out the value of g in France

Depending on the absolute precision required for the value of g at a given point on the national territory, we can operate in various ways.

If the accuracy required is of the order of 10 –3 m/s 2 , we can proceed by using a theoretical formula based on a given ellipsoid and correcting for the altitude of the measurement point. This is the method used in the Afnor NF X02-011 standard.

For a more precise measurement at 10 –4 m/s 2 , or even better, we can perform a calculation based on the measurement stations in the vicinity of the point where we want to know the g value.
