8. Measurement and recording microphones

8.1 Measurement microphones

Microphones used for measurement must have specific characteristics that enable them to be used in sometimes very different conditions, with performance differences that are as small as possible.

The technical qualities required for microphones are mainly :

  • linearity (linear response in amplitude and frequency) ;

  • fidelity and reproducibility ;

  • absence of distortion (harmonic, intermodulation, etc.);

  • long-term electromechanical stability ;

  • temperature and humidity stability ;
