4. Coding chain

Only the decoding algorithm is described in Part 1 of the JPEG 2000 standard. However, to facilitate the introduction of terminology and techniques, we present here a typical encoding algorithm compatible with the standard. Figure 16 shows the block diagram of a JPEG 2000 encoder. It is essentially divided into 5 modules: pre-processing, discrete wavelet transform, quantization, entropy coding and rate allocation.
