2.1 Parallel transmission principles
Here we consider the transmission of a sequence of digital symbols using digital phase and/or amplitude modulation. Let T s be the duration of a symbol.
Phase modulation consists of transmitting a high-frequency sinusoidal signal whose phase and amplitude vary with each symbol duration T s .
The number of possible phase and amplitude values (called the "valence") defines the type of modulation.
