4.1 Access network
The essential role of the access network is to collect subscriber signals using resources adapted to the type of distribution encountered in the field (dispersed subscribers, as in rural areas, or relatively grouped subscribers, as in urban or industrial areas) and to route them to the appropriate transmission networks or service provider networks.
With the emergence of new services, the multiservice aspects of the access network are being reinforced, and developments in this direction are being confirmed within existing networks.
