4. Conclusion

The design of power amplifiers increasingly involves all the players in the development of an RF transmission system, and tends to bring together the different professions concerned.

The traditional, even old-fashioned, approach to amplifier development is based on the following principles:

  • active power components are discrete ;

  • the models are simple and based on IP3 ;

  • behaviours are deemed to comply with static characterizations ;

  • optimizations are essentially limited to the amplifier-antenna interface (back-off, couplings, static losses);
