3. Rectangular patch design procedure

Here's a simple design procedure based on the transmission line method.

Let be the following values, given by the specifications:

  • the dielectric permittivity of the substrate ε r ;

  • the height of the dielectric substrate h ;

  • the desired resonant frequency f res ;

  • input impedance.

The following design procedure (see box) allows us to determine the patch width W, its length L, and the coordinates of an excitation point as a function of a desired input impedance.
